Friends, family and students of Cornerstone Academy of the Ozarks gathered at the Warsaw Community Building on February 17 to enjoy an evening of entertainment, food and fellowship.

The annual Cornerstone Academy fundraiser featured a Fashion Extravaganza at this year’s event Cornerstone teacher Janet Adams wrote and directed a show for the evening’s entertainment. Students dressed up in unique fashions to the delight of the audience as they presented delicious desserts which were auctioned off to the audience.

Participants of the event were treated to a dinner prepared by Mary, Willard and Hannah Schrock. Entertainment included the students as well as local gospel performer Christy Hoagland.

According to Dr. Rebecka Spencer, director and founder of Cornerstone Academy, the event raised $28,000. The funds will go toward purchasing curriculum, supplies and everything that tuition doesn’t cover.

Cornerstone Academy is located inside the Warsaw Bible Church at 16155 Waggoner Road, Warsaw, MO, and welcomes students on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. In addition to her work at Cornerstone Academy, Spencer is working with students diagnosed with dyslexia.

“We are facing a literacy crisis,” said Spencer. “One in five people in the world is dyslexic and needs to be taught how to deal with it. My goal is to not only help students suffering from dyslexia but also to train teachers how to help students who are dyslexic.”

Spencer, who has twenty-two years of experience in education, hopes to reach out to students and teachers all over the country.
