Calhoun Community Church
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun Community Church. Our church family gathers at 9:30 a.m. for pre- church food and fellowship. We use this special time for visiting one with another, welcoming guests as they arrive for Worship, and signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry. Mr. Tom rang the church bell at 9:45 a.m. to call our community to worship.
We extend our sympathy and Christian love to the family and friends of Gary Hibbs, Linda Van Swearingan, and Joan Bullard, who passed into the arms of Jesus this week; others on our prayer list include 2 year old Vivian Puckett, parents and grandparents, Tucker McNeely, Marsha Hulvey, Amber and Patrick Dittmer and baby daughter, Barbara Sales, Millie Redding, Rev. Jackson and Sondra Short, Patty Dump, and Dave Burson. Jerry Reed asked for prayers for a young man he picked up along the road this morning walking to Clinton to work at Wendy’s. His car was broke down but was determined to go to work. We continue to pray for our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily. We pray for guidance as we continue to grow, here on the southeast corner of the Calhoun square. Lord we are thankful for this beautiful weather; please send some life giving rain.
Joys to celebrate: All were pleased for the M&M cookies Carol Lane and oatmeal Cowboy Cookies Verna Walters made to shared with pre-church fellowship this morning. It was a joy to help Jeremy Reed celebrate his Birthday and wishing him many more. As our children were absent today Mr. Steve lit the altar candles and was usher for the offering as Master Tucker is still under the weather. Again we were provided with another gorgeous morning to gather and worship the Lord. Special music: “Life Is Made of Choices’’’ by Shelby Bicknell a tune and words he composed spontaneously. Ms. Verna also provided special music “The Anchor Holds” in honor of her daughter Vicki. When Jerry Reed was ask if he had a special he laughed and sang a cute little ditty ‘’Turning Dill pickles into Sweet pickles for Jesus”. Our thanks to all for sharing their talent. We are kind of impromptu here at Calhoun Community and try very hard to encourage each other, have a little fun, and glorify the Lord at the same time. Steve Siercks was pleased to announce the birth of a granddaughter Feb. 28th her name Anna Aliese, son Andrew’s daughter. Our guest this morning was Jerene Harrelson. A group from here attended the Fried Chicken Dinner sponsored by Grace Fellowship Church at Cole Camp today. Our friends there were pleased to see us and offered their hand in fellowship when we are ready to have such a money maker. Harvesters Food Drop will be at Calhoun Friday, and don’t forget Daylight Savings Time next week--- spring forward. Thought for the week: Don’t think you’re on the right side of the road, just because it’s a well beaten path.

Drakes Chapel UMC
Hello Spring! The calendar says that we are still a few weeks away from the first day of spring, but God’s creations are showing signs that it is arriving early. The country-side surrounding Drake’s Chapel will soon behold God’s beauty. We are thankful that God blessed us with this holy place.
Pastor Margie’s message focused on how Jesus loves all of us, we just need to accept Him. Most important, it is our job to spread His mighty words that He loves us all…like it or not. It matters not what color you are, where you live, how ugly your life is. Christ will meet you where you are. He loves us all, we just need to let Him know we welcome Him into our lives. God loved us so much that He gave His only Son Jesus Christ. We all know the story that took Jesus to the cross. That’s a lot of love.
This week our Bible study will tell us how Thomas may have been affected in the last days of Jesus. Our study “The Third Day” by Tom Berlin has been very thought provoking. It has caused us to take a moment and reflect on our own lives. We gather at the home of Pearl Combs on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m.
Looking for a church to call home? We invite you to take a little drive out to our little chapel in the woods. Our worship begins at 9:00 each Sunday. Whether it be in person or on Facebook live, we hope you will join us. We are located 5 miles east off Hwy 52. We hope the spirit of our risen Christ is present in all you say and do. Not only during this Lenten season but always.

First Baptist
Over the weekend, youth were invited to participate in DNow (Disciple Now), a powerful three-day experience that emphasized what it means to be alive and free in following Jesus Christ, how impactful our words can be and how to humble our hearts, regardless of our circumstances. Throughout the 3-day journey, God was at work through His Holy Spirit, leading three people to accept Christ as Lord. Praise God! During Sunday morning service, DNow’s Main Session Speaker Mason Huff included members and guests in his final message of the weekend titled ‘Stay Free’. Following a special thank you to the youth attending, as well as the volunteers and host homes that made the weekend a success, Mason referred to Daniel 3, when King Nebuchadnezzar built and celebrated a statue, demanding all to bow to the idol. When Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused to worship anything other than the one true God, the king ordered them to be thrown into the fiery furnace. Faithful and courageous, the three accepted their fate, knowing that God would deliver them, but accepting and honoring God, even if He did not. While enduring the heat, a fourth figure was seen with them, and, miraculously, the three emerged from the blaze unharmed, not even smelling of smoke. While God doesn’t promise a world without trouble, we’re reminded by His Word to take heart. God has overcome the world. Proclaim His name through your trials and you too will find peace and freedom! God is always with you!

Let us clear away obstacles that get in the way of our relationship with the Lord. Give Jesus your heart and be confident in his mercy and transformational love, then go out and share it with others.
We were delighted to hear our hand chimes choir play the anthem this week. “O God, Our Help in Ages Past” arranged by Lloyd Larson was their song of choice. Rev. Nancy Gillard delivered the message Character Requires Courage. She chose 2 Kings 5: 1 – 19 as the scriptural text.
The pudding and jello collection for the Samaritan Center has been packed up and delivered. Families in Henry County with benefit from this donation. In one sense, the Christian Church is invisible. This side of heaven, we cannot tell with certainty who is a believer and who isn’t. But, the Christian church is not always intangible. It is not everywhere. While the Christian church does exist at its most basic level wherever two or more are gathered in Christ’s name, the primary and ordinary place where the Christian church can be found is in a church building where God’s Word is faithfully taught, and the sacraments of Holy Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are rightly administered.
Many Christians say they don’t attend church because it is full of hypocrites and unbelievers who are just pretending to be believers. Hogwash! It’s unlikely millions of unbelievers are going to get out of bed and attend Sunday services just to trick their friends and others into thinking they’re Christians. The fact is, those who are truly believers in Jesus Christ are much more likely to be found in church on Sunday mornings, rather than at home lying in bed.
The Holy Spirit works through Word and Sacrament to create and sustain faith in people everywhere. The primary place where this happens is at the Christian church founded by God’s Son, Jesus Christ. Attend church this Sunday. The Holy Spirit is waiting for you there.
Divine Service 1:00 pm. Adult Sunday School Noon. Church phone 660-885-4728.

Urich Baptist
The warm weather brought the faithful together to worship the Lord. Clint Keeney rang the church bell.
Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano. We rejoiced with Lonny Bramell on his birthday. Clint Keeney and Lonny Bramell collected the offering.
The scripture passage from interim Pastor Steve Sowell’s sermon was from Genesis 1: 26-31. This passage tells us that all mankind is superior in all of God’s creation. Everyone is uniquely and wonderfully made and have dominion over the earth and everything in it. Because of Adam and Eve’s sin, mankind’s sin brought death into the world. We are to acknowledge that all humans were created by God and are to give him the glory. He gives us strength to overcome and through our faith in Him--Eternal life. Have a blessed week.

Valley Center United
I was glad when they said, Let us go into the house of the LORD!
We are an open and affirming church that welcomes all to come and worship with us on Sunday morning!
We were saddened by the loss of our dear friend Mary Chapman. Her life was filled with her strong faith in God and amazing love for her family, church and friends. She will be missed. We send prayers to the family of Jackie Stinnett who passed away this week. We send prayers of love and peace to the family of Marion Angel, who was the grandfather of Stephanie Neuenschwander.
Isaac Neuenschwander lit the altar candles to begin our worship services. The congregation sang the beautiful hymn, “Amazing Grace”.
Half of our faith is based on the realism of death. When we experience the loss of someone we love, we grieve for them. But, we must not grieve like someone without faith. Our faith tells us that especially after these losses, we are to continue to shine our light in places of darkness, and to give hope where there is no hope, and love where there is no love. We are to take the risks to do what we are supposed to do.
God’s amazing grace is a message that forgiveness and redemption are possible regardless of sins committed and that the soul can be delivered from despair through the mercy of God. We all live and we all die, but when Jesus suffered and died on the cross for all of us, he gave us the assurance that we will someday, after our own life is over, see him as he welcomes us into Heaven.
