Big Second Half Carries Undefeated Bluebirds To Win Over Slater

Posted
The Cole Camp Bluebirds packed their gear and headed to Slater last Friday. The Bluebirds came away with a 42-14 win to remain undefeated at 5-0 but it wasn't as easy as it sounds.
Neither team scored in the first quarter. The Slater Wildcats would tally first with a 3-yard run on a nice drive. The PAT failed but it was 6-0 early on.
The Bluebirds offense would soon wake up when quarterback Ethan Shearer trotted in from 14 yards out and Cole Camp took the lead on the kick by Reid Harrison to make it 7-6.
Shearer would show off his defense on Slater's next drive when he made a clean pick and sped 42 yards the other way for a interception return for touchdown.  Harrison kicked successfully once again and it was 14-6.
On a somewhat bizarre play, Cole Camp mishandled the punt and the ball rolled into the end zone for a safety   That made it 14-8 as they headed into the locker room for halftime.
The second half saw Cole Camp dominate with two scores to make it 29-8 after three periods. Shearer raced in from 20 yards and hit Owen Ives for the PAT.
Shearer liked the pass so well that later he would find Harrison at the 20 and the speed demon found paydirt for a 49-yard touchdown. Harrison would do the honors once again with a kick through the cross bars and the quarter ended 29-8.
In the fourth, Shearer masterminded a drive and scored from the four. Harrison ripped the kick  again as the Wildcats fell farther behind.
Grady Strathman got in on the action with a 20-yard  touchdown run. Believe it or not, Harrison missed the kick and ended the night 4-5 on extra points.
Slater would score against some JV players on a 17-yard run to end the game.
Shearer rushed for 98 yards on 12 carries. Harrison was 7-53, Strathman was 8-99 and Ben Steenburgen was 7-14.
Shearer was 1-3 with 49 yards passing. Slater was 10-13 with 118 yards in the air.
Cole Camp, ranked eighth in the media poll, hosts Crest Ridge this Friday for Homecoming 2022.
All of the action starts at 7:00pm.
