Cardinals' Strong Second Half Just Too Much For Windsor

With the 2022-23 Lincoln Cardinals, it is always the calm before the storm. Most teams can play with them for the first half, then in the third quarter, Lincoln turns into a defensive machine holding teams under ten points and usually just 4-5.
Lincoln took matters in hand in the second half and disposed of a pesky Windsor squad, 72-46 last Tuesday as part of Senior Night festivities, honoring the Class of 2023. Windsor came in at 6-14 and didn't seem to care that the Cardinals were 22-0.
Windsor hit some shots and played a tight zone that forced Lincoln to shoot from the outside. Lincoln can usually make a few but their bread and butter is driving to the paint.
It was a five-point game at 35-30 at halftime.
Lincoln senior Bryce Koll said, "Coach said if we wanted a close game then we can keep playing like we are playing but if we want to win by 20, then we need to drive the paint."
Guess what? They drove the paint. Coach Burke commented, "First it was Kyle (Eckhoff) then it was Connor (Lynde) then it was Mack (Hesse)."
Koll commented, "It took us awhile to find our groove. It was a physical game and the referees let us play. "
With two of the best football teams in the extremely tough Kaysinger Conference over the past five years and with the court full of football players, it was no surprise that the game would be physical.
It was 52-35 after three as Lincoln's third quarter onslaught defense held Windsor to just five points.
The Cardinals were 16-20 at the free throw line. Freshman Riley Sanders went 4-4 from the line in the fourth quarter.
It was Senior Night and the six seniors; Lynde, Eckhoff, Hesse, Koll, Kaleb Mundy, and Ross Johnson stood tall. They moved to 23-0, tying the girls program for most wins to start a season.
LINCOLN (72): Lynde 22, Mundy 7, Eckhoff 15, Koll 2, Hesse 16, Johnson 4, Sanders 4.
WINDSOR (46): Micke 4, Cooley 2, Burglary 3, Witherspoon 9, Paxton 14, Craig 2, Richey 11.
