Cole Camp Crushes Midway, Ends Two Game Losing Streak

The Cole Camp Bluebirds desperately needed a win after two straight losses. After the heartbreaking 38-34 loss to Lincoln and the devastating 36-0 pounding by Adrian, the Bluebirds were looking to regain their identity. Friday night was redemption time as Cole Camp demolished Midway 50-6 as they eye a date with destiny and a very possible district title.
Junior Grady Strathman had a huge game with 120 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 12 carries in helping leading the Bluebirds to a sweet victory on the road.
Cole Camp would score in the first quarter on an 11 yard run by Reid Harrison, who also had a tremendous outing. The 'Birds quarterback Ethan Shearer scored the two point conversion and it was 8-0 early on.
The second quarter saw the Bluebirds destroy Midway as Shearer ran for a touchdown and hit Harrison for the 2-point conversion.
Strathman then raced 34 yards for a backbreaking touchdown. Owen Ives caught Shearer's pass on the 2-point attempt and it was 24-0 and things would get ugly from there on.
Surprisingly, Coach Kevin Shearer showed one of his bag of tricks with a reverse as Shearer handed to Ives, who handed to Harrison for a touchdown run. The PAT failed.
Shearer then hit Ives on the 47 who raced in for a 61 yard TD. Harrison proved he was human as he missed the kick  but would ram two home later in the night.
With a 36-0 halftime lead and the running clock, things slowed down on the scoring end. Strathman would race to the house from the 27 and Harrison did the honors through the uprights as it was 43-0.
Midway scored on a 71 yard pass play against Cole Camp's JV  in the fourth.
Insult to injury came on a kick return from the 19 by Harrison. The speedy  Harrison would kick the PAT successfully and life was good on the Cole Camp sidelines.
The win meant Cole Camp would grab the third seed in district play behind Lincoln and Russellville.  The now 6-2 blue clad warriors will host Harrisburg next Friday.
Cole Camp's Ethan Shearer's dream all summer has been to play Lincoln for the district championship. As the old chessmaster once told his young student about a future checkmate, "it is there, it is two moves away but it is there."
The BCE will cover the action for the Friday 7:00pm kickoff.
