Cole Camp Takes Consolation At Kaysinger

Cole Camp took the consolation trophy with a  win over Stover, 51-37 in the  Kaysinger Conference tournament on Saturday in Sedalia at State Fair. Cole Camp lost to Sacred Heart 45-44 to end up in the consolation side of the bracket.
Cole Camp lead 20-18 at the half. It was tied 11-11 after one. Cole Camp started to pull away in the third 32-24.
The game featured two of the biggest players around in Cole Camp senior Michael Wissman at 6'4", 335 against Stover sophomore Jimmy Black at 6'5", 350.
Coach Shearer said, "I was proud of Michael in that he didn't make this a wrestling match. He used his feet. I am proud how he played".
Free throw shooting killed Stover as they were just  5-20 from the line. 
Both teams pressed at various times. Stover played a 3-2 zone most of the game.Cole Camp played man-to-man.
Gentry Dieckman, the 6'6" forward for Cole Camp, had his usual dunk. He is right handed and comes down on the right side. Photographers take note.
Asked about the way they played, Coach Shearer said, "I was happy with the tempo and rhythm of our shot selection. We made a few and that is always good. We did some things we don't normally do. We got the win. We will probably play them two more times."
Cole Camp is now 15-6. Asked if they were happy with their record, Coach Shearer said, "We are not. We lost to some very good teams and well coached teams. We lost some close games and this team should find a way to win those type of games. That is on me to find a way to get better."
Stover fell to 13-7.

In a season of ups and downs and losing some close games,the Cole Camp Bluebirds were simply too much for Smithton in a 72-41 victory on Tuesday in the Kaysinger Conference tournament in Sedalia.
Smithton had lost to Lincoln 61-32 in the first round and Cole Camp lost a 45-44 thriller to Sacred Heart to set up the consolation round contest.
Smithton gave a good account of themselves in the first half. They trailed 20-17 after one and 31-23 at the half.
Neil Simon must've been singing "Slip Sliding Away" as the third quarter saw the Bluebirds take over at 51-34 after three. Cole Camp outscored the Tigers 20-9 in the third and 21-7 in the fourth to take command of the game.Cole Camp would sub in their JV players in the fourth period. 
Gentry Dieckman, Cole Camp's 6'6" junior forward, had two big dunks on his way to a 22 point performance. The Bluebirds shot 12-16 from the free throw line. They moved to  13-7 on the year.
