Have I Got A Line For You!

The news if full of stories about two Tennessee lawmakers who were expelled for leading gun control protests that spilled into the House Chamber. Insurrections are apparently OK if you’re in the correct political party. The ranting for more gun control has begun again. The common denominator in this latest round of shootings is mental health. Why are we not demanding that dangerous people be taken seriously and treat them? If you just want to ban guns, you can focus on the guns and not the shooter. That’s what many of our politicians are doing. Taking away the 2nd Amendment won’t solve the problem. It was put in place to stop gun confiscation. The British tried to confiscate guns from the colonists. The colonists fought the British which resulted in the Battle of Lexington and Concord. Here we are today and the government wants to do the same thing. History repeats itself. The Founders didn’t trust the government, hence the Bill of Rights. The problem we have now compared to then…..judges who think they’re here to protect the government from the people, instead of protecting people from the government. Good Lord, is there any hope for us?

Speaking of state politics, the legislature next door in Kansas just passed a law stating your must use the public restroom corresponding with the gender assigned at birth. Many are upset with this and threatening to “boycott” the state. Why are people arguing over this? Unisex restrooms, XX restrooms and XY restrooms would do the trick. No mention of gender, sexual preference or switching back and forth, just chromosome assigned bathrooms. But this probably wouldn’t satisfy those who get mental relief championing a cause. Most people though, just need physical relief and go with what they’re born with. Isn’t this the craziest world?

Let’s jump to something else. How about Deepwater? Ran across a story the paper carried about the B.B. Club in 1911.  It had 16 members. They chipped in 25 cents a week for a keg of beer and were hauled into circuit court. Their secretary, W.M. Jones, was indicted for “Conveying the beer from the depot to the place of drinking,” meaning the club. When members were placed on the stand they refused to acknowledge who the beer belonged to, pleading their Constitutional Rights. Judge Calvird ordered them to answer and after a second refusal ordered them to jail, where upon they were willing to admit their membership. More questions failed to connect Secretary Jones with the delivery of the beer. Members all had short memories as to who carried it over from the depot. How it traveled that distance unaided remains a mystery to this day. Under the evidence. Judge Calvird compelled the jury to acquit. Ah, the universe is full of mysteries isn’t it?
