Have I Got A Line For You!

Looks like we’re starting to bail out banks again. Remember when this was supposed to be a one-time deal in 2008? Once again the Federal government says one thing and does the exact opposite. Something tells me Comrade Yellen found out one her donors had a lot to lose at Silicon Valley Bank.  The bank said it had $16 billion in unrealized losses. That’s because it made horrible investments with its depositor’s money. Sounds like a responsible bank to me. If some smaller less elitist banks fail, I wonder whether or not the Treasury Department, Federal Reserve and FDIC will jump in the with same urgency they’re showing here. These now jobless SVB employees have more diversity and inclusionary training than actual banking experience. They’ll be perfect for government positions.

Ran across an article yesterday about three parent babies. Britain was the first country to pass a law that allows this and Australia recently did the same. The rule allows genetic material from a mother, father and female donor for couples who risk passing certain diseases to their offspring. What will this do to genealogy research in the future? There is a huge uproar over this in many circles, with critics pointing to the law of natural selection. Didn’t that idea end with the use of tools? If you need corrective vision you’re not cut out for hunting on the plains of the Serengeti. What if corporations of tomorrow demand workers with a certain genetic profile? Is this latest scientific advance good for the human race? I just don’t have the answer to that. Do you? But I do recall a country that once had a program to have babies born with only blonde hair and blue eyes. We all know where that story ended.

I’m in the middle of a book about William Anderson, a member of Quantrill’s fighting group. He was called “Bloody Bill Anderson” for good reason and was justifiably taken out by Union Soldiers during a skirmish in Albany, Missouri. Anderson ended life far from how he started it, where his mother steeped her kids with good books and music on the family farm.  This is much different than how many eastern writers portrayed it. The Border War in Missouri which started a few years before Fort Sumter was fired upon, was an entirely different, ruthless type of warfare.
