Edith E. Scarbrough

Edith E. Scarbrough, age 95, of Warsaw, Missouri entered life eternal on Friday, March 24, 2023 at the Sylvia Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia, Missouri.  She was born to Herman and Violet Anderson Schultz of Dundee, Illinois in Elgin, Illinois on July 25, 1927.  She graduated from Elgin High School in 1944.  Edith and Lowell E. Scarbrough were married on October 26, 1946, in the First Congregational Church in Elgin, Illinois.  They became the parents of three daughters and two sons.  
She is survived by a son David Scarbrough (Lisa) of Anchorage, Alaska, a daughter, Judy Cumpata of Louisville, Kentucky and a former son-in-law Angelo Torres (Kathey) of Blue Springs, Missouri, ten grandchildren; Chip VanHam, Jacqui VanHam, Jason Wisser (Sara), Zachary Wisser (Katie), Keriann Chandler (Shawn), Karen Aschoff (Alex), Kelly Husk (Patrick) and Kristina Daily (Brent), Benjamin Scarbrough and Daniel Scarbrough, two step-grandchildren; Nicholas Torres and Reynaldo Torres, fifteen great-grandchildren; Bennett, Cooper, Colt and Quinn Chandler, Aiden, Hunter and Emmerson Aschoff, Teagen and Brielle Husk, Jonathan and Anderson Wisser, Everett, Leland and Hudson Wisser and Benjamin George Daily.  Many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lowell, daughters Linda Torres and Cynthia Wisser, a son Craig, brothers; Marvin and Melvin Schultz, five sisters; Anna Allen Nagel, Helen Andrews, Irene Pelletier, Florence Hoftyzer and Donna Schultz.  And a great-granddaughter Evelyn Wisser. 
She retired from Illinois Bell Telephone Company after thirty-two years of service.  She then worked for Ackemann’s Department Store in Elgin, Illinois.  Lowell and Edith lived in Elgin until 1988 when they moved to their retirement home in Warsaw, Missouri.  She was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers, Secretary of the Valley Bell Credit Union for several years, and a member of the Elgin Area Historical Society.  In Warsaw, she was active in many community activities; President of the V.F.W. Post 5894 Auxiliary of which she is a life member, President of the Warsaw Community Betterment Association, Secretary of the Blue Branch Improvement Association and active for many years in the Benton County Historical Society serving in several offices and a lifetime member, a member of the Spoonbill Quilters Guild of Warsaw and the Benton County Republican Women’s Club.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Warsaw and served on several church committees. 
Funeral Services for Edith E. Scarbrough will be held at 2:00 P.M.  Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw, Missouri.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service. 
Visitation in Elgin, Illinois will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Home, 51 Center Street, Elgin, IL.  Burial will follow the visitation at the Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin, Illinois.  
Memorial contributions may be made to the Benton County Historical Society, the Benton County Cancer Fund, or the Elgin Area Historical Society.
