Shirley D. Place

Shirley D. Place, age 87 of Warsaw, MO, passed away November 2, 2023 at Golden Valley Hospital in Clinton, MO.   She was born on February 13, 1936 in Warsaw, Missouri to Everett Wesley Salley and Elva (Hensley) Salley.  Shirley graduated from Warsaw High School with the class of 1954.
 
Shirley led a remarkable life filled with love and family. In 1978 she was united in marriage to the love of her life Randall Place. For 20 years she worked as a teamster in Alaska, specifically at Anchorage Cold Storage.  Her dedication and hard work were always evident in her every endeavor.  After her time in Alaska, Shirley returned to her beloved hometown of Warsaw and fulfilled her dream owning and operating the Lazy River Restaurant.  
 
Shirley had a passion for horses from an early age, she enjoyed riding and showing them.  She found solace and joy in their presence and spent countless hours with them.  In addition to her love for horses, she was also an excellent cook and painter.  Her paintings were a reflection of her vibrant spirit and creative mind.  
 
Shirley is preceded in death by her loving husband, Randall Place, her siblings, Janice Hutton Emery and J.W. Salley and a grandson, Derrick Howell.
 
She will be deeply missed by her children; Jacque Risinger of Palmer, Alaska, James W. Pudder of Warsaw, MO, Chris E. Dacy (adopted son) of Kansas City, Kansas, Salley Jo Howell (Mark) of Warsaw MO.  A step-daughter, Janice Switzer (Randy), of Savanah, Missouri.  She leaves a lasting legacy in her grandchildren, Brian Risinger (Tara) of Wasilla, Alaska, Sarah Montague (Eric) of Anchorage, Alaska and Dustin Howell (Justine) of Warsaw MO, and her eight great-grandchildren, other family and a community of friends.
 
A service to honor and celebrate Shirley’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, November 10th, at Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw with Pastor Jason McCray officiating. Memorial Contributions can be made to New Home Cemetery c/o Reser Funeral Home.
