James L. Green

James Lee Green, age 76, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away Thursday morning on May 25, 2023 at his home.  He was born in Jackson County, Missouri on February 12, 1947 and was the son of Sonny and Martha Spainhower. 
He grew up in the Independence and Kansas City, Missouri areas where he graduated from Van Horn High School Class of 1965.
He entered the United States Air Force on July 8, 1965 in Kansas City, Missouri where he served in the Vietnam War and was part of the Tet Offensive campaign.  During his service he was awarded the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars.  He received his honorable discharge on February 14, 1969. 
He was united in marriage to Nancy Gartner on January 22, 1972 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Independence, Missouri.  They made their home in Independence where he was employed for Hallmark for 33 years, later moving to Warsaw in 2018.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Linda Conner and Donna Mitchell and his beloved service dogs Tony Boy and Molly.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of the home, one son, James Michael Green and his wife Katherine of Seattle, Washington, one granddaughter, Anastasia Allen and her husband Saint Elmo Newton V, one grandson, Jared Allen, one sister, Barbara Clasby and her husband Kenny.  He is also survived by his brothers in arms, Cliff Mitchell, John Harrison and Joe Marshall.
Interment with military honors will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri.  A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. on Thursday June 1, 2023 at the Reser Funeral Home.
