Mark Anthony Barnes, age 66, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away on 18 September 2023, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia, MO.
Mark was born March 30, 1957, in Kansas City, MO to Esther J. and Jesse G. Barnes. He was an avid fisherman and his love of fishing started at a very young age. He would hunt deer and learned to process it himself - he was one of the best. He also was an excellent chef and specialized in Italian pizza, lasagna, and soups. Additionally, he was an expert at BBQ and fish fry’s which family and friends so enjoyed over the years.
Mark and Pepe were advocates for homeless dogs and cats, and eventually started the ‘Josie Foundation’ fostering many in preparation for adoption. Mark was passionately loyal to his family and friends and would try to help anyone who needed it.
Mark was preceded in death by his father Jesse G. Barnes; brothers Vito G. and David R.; half-brother Richard H.; and sister-in-law Patty. Survivors include his beloved partner of 20+ years Patti “Pepe” Goetting; son Mark Shannon Curd; mother Esther J. (Giarraputo / Barnes) Shelton; brother Stephen E. Barnes; sisters Mary D. (Barnes) Law and husband Robert, and Jennifer J. Shelton; half-sister Jessie Ann Thomson and husband David; granddaughter Payge, her husband Tyler and great-granddaughter; and grandson Tyler Curd.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with the Rosary at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 25, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Boulevard, Kansas City, MO 64124. Cremation will follow the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to KC Pet Project, 7077 Elmwood Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64132.
