Melvin "Mel" Hopkins

Melvin E. “Mel” Hopkins, age 88, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2023 at the Warsaw Health & Rehabilitation Center.  He was born in Fairfield, Missouri on September 29, 1934.
He graduated from Warsaw High School then he began his career as a welder for Missouri Portland Cement in Sugar Creek, Missouri where he worked for 31 years before retiring at the age of 49. 
On March 27, 1954, he was united in marriage to Lois Wade at the Sugar Creek Church of God.  Unto this union, two sons and two daughters were born.  They made their home in Independence until moving to Warsaw in 1994.
Melvin loved to fish, hunt and he was the greatest story teller of all.  He loved entertaining anyone who would listen.  He also was a very great historian of Benton County.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Warsaw where he also served as a Deacon for several years.  He would also serve as an Alderman for the City of Warsaw where he and the family would always have to be ready for concerned citizens to knock on the front door.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Marie, his parents William Hopkins and Gladys Wolfe Hopkins, 2 brothers, Floyd and Lloyd Hopkins and a granddaughter, Shawna Marie Hopkins.
He is survived by two sons, Scotty Eugene Hopkins (Debbie) of Independence, William Gregg Hopkins (Stephanie) of Higginsville, two daughters, Vicki Elaine Chouteau (Don) of Oak Grove and Kay Lynne Hopkins of Warsaw, seven grandchildren, Jodi Chisam, Natalie Glasgow, Jakqualyn Boden, Ashley Marie Carter, Charity Marie Jones, William Sean Hopkins and Sarah Kay Price, 11 great-grandchildren, Ashton, Carly, Alex, Abby, Juliet, Jenna, Cora, Maverick, Liam, Leo, Everhett and Ella, 3 great-great-grandchildren, Landon, Mia and Landry, one sister, Shirley Stull, 1 nephew and 2 nieces, other relatives and friends.
Dad, pawpaw, we will miss you dearly.
